Conservation Optimism Director

The Department of Biology is looking for a Director of the Conservation
Optimism initiative. The role is based within the Interdisciplinary Centre for
Conservation Science in the Biology Department. Conservation Optimism
(conservationoptimism.org) is a global movement which aims to empower people
from every walk of life to act for the future of nature.





You will have demonstrable leadership skills, strong financial management and
fundraising skills, extensive strategic planning and organising skills,
excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to
communicate complex concepts to a non-specialist audience. Your strong
interpersonal skills will include the ability to communicate diplomatically
with people from around the world. You should also have an ability to work in
a complex environment, taking the initiative when necessary and prioritising
effectively to meet deadlines.





You will also have a passion for empowering conservationists, previous
relevant experience within conservation leadership, and experience in one of
more major areas of Conservation Optimism's work (e.g. communications,
fundraising, event management, media).





This is a strategic and responsible position that involves developing and
delivering Conservation Optimism's strategy, including maintaining and
enhancing relationships with a broad range of partners and collaborators. It
also involves line management, preparation of outputs in a range of media,
including potentially peer-reviewed papers, as well as delivering events,
workshops and training sessions and representing Conservation Optimism in a
range of forums.
