**About the role**
Join the governance team at the University of Oxford and help us ensure that
consultation with, and amongst academic colleagues ensuring robust, collegiate
decision making continues to be at the heart of our institution.
The governance team sits within the Planning and Council Secretariat (PACS)
supporting Council and a number of its committees, providing advice to senior
colleagues. The wider PACS team provides planning, budgeting and resource
allocation support to a number of committees and the wider University, it also
oversees the administration of the University’s trust funds.
You will be joining an expanding team of knowledgeable governance
professionals who are collegiate in their approach, being supportive of each
other, providing high level support to a number of key University committees.
This means that there will also be someone to talk to when faced with a
situation not previously encountered. We have moved to hybrid working
providing in person support to committee meetings as required and work
remotely when other tasks can be carried out off site.
Initial responsibilities will be focussed on servicing a number of high
profile committees that are required to mitigate reputational, ethical or
other similar risks. These are: the Committee to Review Donations and Research
Funding (CRDRF) which may be advised by the Security in International
Collaboration Group; and the Safety Executive Group which is provided advice
by the Consultative Committee for Health & Safety.
You will be working with senior internal and external members of the
University including the Chair of the CRDRF (external member of Council), the
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Development and External Affairs), the Registrar and the
Director of Occupational Health & Safety providing support and guidance as
needed. The work is fast paced, requires attention to detail and will require
providing workable solutions that ensure robust decision making. You will have
to assimilate and make sense of a number of viewpoints, being aware of the
competing interests of a number of individuals/departments/divisions whilst
assessing where compromise is possible within the legislative framework that
we operate within.
You will enjoy working within a fast paced, deadline driven environment. You
will be flexible in your approach to committee servicing being able to write
papers and provide guidance for other authors on a diverse range of topics.
You will be able to demonstrate the ability to synthesise information from a
number of expert sources into a readily accessible format that can be used by
a number of different audiences.
