Titchmarsh Research Fellow and Glasstone Research Fellow

Applications for this vacancy closed on 24 November 2023 at 12:00PM
We are seeking talented postdoctoral researchers to take up exciting
Fellowship opportunities at the Mathematical Institute.

The prestigious Titchmarsh Research Fellowships provide an ideal opportunity
for candidates to pursue an independent research programme in pure
mathematics, and to join a large existing cohort of leading researchers on
Fellowship programmes at the Mathematical Institute
https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/people/research-fellowship-programmes/hooke-and-
titchmarsh-fellowships

The prestigious Glasstone Research Fellowship in Science is supported by the
Glasstone Bequest, which was set up to encourage scientists at an early stage
of their career to follow their research interests at Oxford:
https://www.mpls.ox.ac.uk/research-funding/internal-research-
funding/glasstone-research-fellowships-in-science. One Glasstone Research
Fellowship is available in mathematics for start in 2024.

The Department is also advertising a similar fellowship scheme for Hooke
Research Fellows in applied mathematics: https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/node/65978

One Glasstone Fellowship is available and up to four appointments will be made
across the Hooke and Titchmarsh Fellowships in this recruitment. All
applications for the Hooke and Titchmarsh Research Fellowships will
automatically be considered for the Glasstone Fellowship. The Fellowships are
full-time, and fixed-term for up to 36 months; applications for job shares or
for part-time working to accommodate family circumstances will be considered.

Candidates should make one application which will automatically be considered
for both the Titchmarsh and Glasstone Fellowships. You will have research
interests compatible with those of our current faculty in the algebra,
combinatorics, geometry, history of mathematics, logic, number theory,
functional analysis, stochastic analysis or topology groups, or the Oxford
Centre for Nonlinear PDE (OxPDE); and you must clearly state at the start of
your supporting letter which one of these research groups you feel is closest
to your work. The successful applicants will be talented researchers, who
have already produced excellent research during their PhD and in any
postdoctoral positions. Securing a Fellowship will offer you the freedom to
conduct your own research programme.

To aid the development of their academic profile, Fellows will be required to
contribute three or six hours of teaching per week for the 24 weeks of each
academic year to support the department, averaged over the period of the
Fellowship to allow for extended visits elsewhere. (The exact nature of this
teaching will be in accordance with departmental need as determined by the
Head of Department, noting that the department may require you to teach in a
college to provide cover for a member of faculty).

Candidates will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in pure mathematics or
a related discipline. They must show evidence of independence and the ability
to undertake research of the highest academic standard, hold an outstanding
record of papers published in major international journals (commensurate with
career stage), and have a realisable and relevant research plan which would
enhance the research profile of the Mathematical Institute. Additional
information about the posts, and a full list of selection criteria, are
available in the job descriptions.

We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional
Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress towards advancing
racial and gender equality. As part of our strategic aim to improve staff
equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications from women
and from BME candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of
this type within the department.

Please direct informal enquiries to the contact details below, quoting vacancy
reference 168996.

Applicants should read the job description before writing their application.
You will be required to upload a supporting letter setting out how you meet
the selection criteria, a curriculum vitae including full list of publications
with top three papers starred, a statement of research interests including a
plan for research during the Fellowship, and the names and contact details of
two referees as part of your online application. **(NOTE: Applicants are
responsible for contacting their referees and making sure that their letters
are received by the closing date.)**

**Only applications received before 12.00 noon UK time on Friday 24 November
2023 can be considered.**
