Security Officer
Applications for this vacancy closed on 13 November 2023 at 12:00PM
• Are you tired of mundane security jobs offering no training or additional
allowances?
• Are you looking to join a professional, supported, well-trained and
motivated security team?
• Would you like to be employed by the University of Oxford with all its
amazing benefits?
• Have you got excellent customer service skills?
• Do you have an interest in Security and the ability to work to a shift
pattern which includes being on-call?
• Do you work well as part of a dedicated and diverse team?
• Do you have a flexible, can-do attitude?
If you answered yes to the above, then an exciting opportunity has arisen for
you to be an essential part of the security team at the prestigious Ashmolean
Museum, working in a busy but extremely rewarding environment in the heart of
Oxford and we would love to meet you.
This is a permanent, full-time post, working 36.5 hours per week to a set rota
pattern.
Your role will be essential in protecting the safety and security of our
colleagues, visitors and contractors as well as ensuring the security of our
amazing exhibits. The security team also provides security for the many
exciting events held within the Museum which often finish after midnight.
You will be part of a specialist team of highly-trained and dedicated security
officers responsible for the effective implementation of the Museum’s security
and safety strategy under the direction of the Head of Safety and Security.
You will be working in an environment surrounded by beautiful objects and
working with amazing people. This position also gives the opportunity to
receive training in Security and Customer Service as well as additional
security-based qualifications to encourage development in the role. Training
is very important in our team.
You should possess excellent customer service qualities with a friendly
persona and a willingness to go the extra mile to help the Museum achieve its
objectives. Our team strategy is to be business enablers, not business
restrictors.
You will also have the ability to make effective and reasoned decisions,
sometimes under pressure or in difficult circumstances. An SIA Door
Supervisors qualification, SIA CCTV qualification and a First Aid
qualification would be desirable but are not essential for this in-house role.
Ideally you might have experience of working within a security environment and
operating a range of security and safety systems, however, full training will
be given to the right candidate.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Working in the Museum’s security control room.
• Carrying out patrolling of the Museum for both security and health and
safety purposes.
• Providing pro-active assistance to the Museum’s departments including
escorting duties
• Providing a visible security presence at the front door.
• Working on the Museum reception desk.
You will be required to work shifts that cover daytime, late evenings,
weekends and bank holidays, as required by the security rota and to provide
cover for sickness and holidays within the team. Some late working past
midnight for events will also be required and therefore flexibility to assist
with additional shifts is extremely important.
You will be required, after passing your probation, and having received
training, to be part of the security team on-call rota. Therefore, you must
have the ability to respond to a call-out, out of normal working hours and
reach the Museum within 30 minutes. This is a mandatory requirement.
This role requires some manual handling and patrolling of the museum which
includes climbing stairs. Due to the nature of this post, the successful
candidate will be required to undertake a DBS check. You will also be subject
to known-consignor security checks, which includes references for the previous
five years and information on any employment gaps of more than 28 days.
The possession of a criminal record or poor financial background will not
necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are
judged individually according to the nature of the role and information
provided.
You are required to submit a **CV and a supporting evidence form** with your
application, outlining how you meet each of the essential selection criteria
for the role. A CV on its own will not be considered. Please find the attached
supporting evidence form below.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a
friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through
diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies,
such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff
returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave.
University employees are also eligible to join the relevant pension scheme for
their role. Further information on the University’s staff benefits for both
work and personal life can be found here: https://hr.admin.ox.ac.uk/staff-

2023 will be considered. Interviews are expected to take place during the week
commencing 27 November 2023.
