Research Assistant – Molecular Virology Group

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Assistant to join the
Molecular Virology group within the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Oxford
Institute (COI), Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM). You will be supporting
the laboratory through growing and maintaining viral cultures in both
containment level 2 and 3. Performing a range of molecular biology,
immunological and biochemical techniques to study the interplay between
respiratory viruses and cellular oxygen sensing.





You will be responsible for performing experiments in high-containment,
examining the impact of cellular oxygen sensing in respiratory viral
infections, including SARS-CoV-2. You will also perform research work with
human and mammalian cell lines (tissue culture), inlcuding the generation and
maintenance of knockout and knockdown cell llines using CRISPR/siRNA. You will
be responsible for keeping detailed record of all activities and to
consolidate data from various projects within the group, interpret the results
and to present them to other team members, including external collaborators.





It is essential that you hold a degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry,
biotechnology or similar, together with being familiar with molecular biology
techniques (e.g. Immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, qPCR, molecular
cloning). You will have experience in handling cells, tissue culture and gene
knockout/knockdown, as well as the ability to communicate results clearly and
effectively and to discuss scientific ideas both within the work environment.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 18 months and
is funded by the CAMS Core grant.
