The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Technician in Space
Instrumentation to provide technical and administrative support, as a member
of the Small Research Facility team experienced in parts and process
qualification, to ensure timely qualification of space flight parts to ensure
the smooth delivery of the Space Instruments meeting the requirements imposed
by NASA, ESA, and other space customers.





This post is fixed term for 2 years

**About the Role**





You will Manage own workload balancing tasks received from various project
teams. Maintain a record of task status and expected completion and ensure
completion of tasks in a timely manner. Develop written procedures for the
qualification of adhesive and coatings, based upon a sound knowledge of
international standards, as required to meet the specifications of the SRF
space instrumentation customers. Design and prepare jigs for screening of
flight components. Assist the Infrared Multilayer Laboratory (IML) with
development of coating equipment and process control. Perform solder assembly
and test of flight and support electronics to ESA and NASA standards,
monitoring and ordering stock as necessary. Prepare, write, and review basic
operation procedures and result templates for tests and processes. Support
off-site testing of components and sub-assemblies.





**About You**





You will need to have Experience of working in a laboratory environment and a
Qualification in ESA flight soldering techniques. Knowledge of international
testing and qualification standards and Educated to at least HNC level or
equivalent qualification in engineering. Familiarity with 3D CAD and
electronic design software and Knowledge of Health and safety regulations.
Strong attention to detail, the ability to manage your own workload and IT
skills are also essential





Experience working with electronic and/or mechanical CAD and knowledge of
vacuum systems is desirable but not essential.
