Collection Assistant - Department of Antiquities (Maternity Cover)

Applications are invited for a Collections Assistant in the Department of
Antiquities at the Ashmolean Museum. Reporting to the Collections Manager, you
will assist with the preparation and movement of objects for teaching,
research, outgoing loans, photography and conservation, as well as having
responsibility for the supervision of visitors to the Museum’s Study Rooms.
You will support the Collections Manager and Curators in a variety of tasks to
enhance the Department’s storage areas, gallery projects and general
maintenance.
You will have a qualification in History of Art, Archaeology, Museum Studies
or a related discipline, and/or proven experience in a similar museum role.
You will have familiarity with a range of object types and materials and an
awareness of collections care standards and issues surrounding conservation
and security. You will be able to organise your own workload and address
competing priorities, working as part of a team under supervision and applying
your own initiative to work independently. You will also have an awareness of
manual handling.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position, working 36.5 hours per week for 9
months (with the possibility of extension to 12 months).
