Laboratory Research Technician - Centre for Translational Myeloma Research

We are seeking to appoint a highly qualified and dedicated Laboratory Research
Technician. This is a new and exciting position to join the Thakurta
Translational Research group at Oxford Translational Myeloma Centre (OTMC).
OTMC has been set up to conduct and lead Multiple Myeloma (MM) research to
transform quality, outcome, and cost of patient care. You will be based at the
Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences
(NDORMS), Botnar Research Centre, Oxford.



As a Laboratory Research Technician you will work closely with our researchers
and pharmaceutical partners and you will apply single cell techniques to
understand development of drug resistance and identification of novel drug
targets and mechanisms. Your key responsibilities will consist of cell culture
and biological functional assay development, cell biology and biochemical
assays for understanding drug or disease mechanisms and proteomics experiments
to characterize cell and immune cells. You will teach experimental techniques
to new laboratory members and provide supervision of new lab members within
the laboratory as well as assume responsibility for general laboratory
maintenance, e.g. maintain stocks and order laboratory supplies and
consumables.



You will be educated to a BSc or MSc in biological science or have equivalent,
relevant laboratory experience. Previous laboratory experience (includes, but
not limited to relevant undergraduate activities), cell culture techniques,
basic molecular biology e.g PCR/qPCR, DNA/RNA isolation, Western blot,
microscopy are essential. As are the ability to learn and develop new
techniques, and to troubleshoot them together with good computing skills and
excellent team working and organisational skills. Experience of NGS library
preparation, experience in tissue engineering and experience of flow or mass
cytometry including cell sorting are desirable.



This is a full-time (100% FTE) fixed-term for 2 years appointment.
