Postdoctoral Research Associate (Research Fellow)
Applications for this vacancy closed on 6 December 2024 at 12:00PM
Our team at the University of Oxford’s Department of Biology, Oxford Martin
School and Pandemic Sciences Institute is looking to do a cluster hire of up
to **5 Pandemic Sciences Research Fellows** in four major research areas. Each
post is advertised for an initial period of 24 months with possibility of
extensions beyond.
**What are we looking for:** We are looking for Research Fellows to join our
vibrant research environment at Oxford. Each Fellow is expected to perform
independent research on a topic of mutual interest, publish this work in peer-
reviewed scientific journals, and represent the group at external scientific
and public health policy meetings. We value candidates with the ability to
identify high-impact research questions and work independently with little
day-to-day supervision, are self-motivated and have strong computational and
scientific writing skills. We provide a nurturing environment and access to
high-dimensional pathogen genome, human mobility, epidemiological, and climate
datasets. For those interested we provide travel bursaries to support visits
to collaborators and to present work at scientific conferences.
**How to apply:** We ask that you clearly indicate which area you’re applying
to (AI & Epidemiology, Phylodynamics & Human Mobility, Climate & Infectious
diseases, Global health digital data science), as well as your preferred
starting date. We are looking to hear what major scientific question motivates
you and how you’re hoping to answer it within 2-3 years and in partnership
with our research group (2 pages max., research statement). Please also submit
a statement of interest describing your previous experiences that shaped your
scientific interests and how you plan to use this opportunity to advance your
own career, as well as contributions to the scientific community that
demonstrate good citizenship, commitment to health equity, and communication
skills (2 pages max., personal statement). Lastly, please supply an up-to-date
academic CV. Applications for this vacancy are to be made online via our
e-recruitment system.
The University of Oxford is committed to equality and valuing diversity. All
applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria.
The closing date for applications is Friday 6 December 2024 and we’re hoping
to hold interviews in mid-December and fill the positions by January 2025, but
with flexibility on the start dates, whether before or after. The posts are
full time.
