<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p></p><div><strong>Pay Scale:</strong> STANDARD RESEARCH GRADE 6</div><br> <div><strong>Salary (&#163;)</strong>: &#163;34,982 - &#163;40,855 per annum</div><br> <div><strong>Location:</strong> Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford</div><br> <div><strong>Contract type:</strong> Fixed Term Contract for up to 3 years in the first instance</div><br> <div><strong>Hours:</strong> Full Time (37.5 hours per week)</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div><strong>About the role</strong></div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the lab of Dr Madhu Srinivasan to provide research support for a project aimed at understanding topological entrapment of chromosomal DNA by cohesion.&#160; You will manage your own research and administrative activities within guidelines provided and assist in the design and implementation of research projects. The role involves contributing to wider project planning, including ideas for new research projects, determining the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses, and identifying suitable alternatives if technical problems arise. This role will also require you to select, follow, and adapt experimental protocols, gather, analyse, and present scientific data from a variety of sources, and contribute to scientific reports and journal articles as well as the presentation of data/papers at conferences. You will maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety protocols, be responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables, and use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment. You will be required to represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone, and contribute to discussions and share research findings with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups. &#160;In this role you may also be required to provide advice and guidance to research students where appropriate</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 3 years in the first instance.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div><strong>About you</strong></div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>You will hold a Master&#8217;s degree and be working toward a doctorate in a specialist discipline. You should possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes, specifically expertise in yeast cell culture, cell cycle analysis, molecular genetics, in vivo crosslinking, nanopore sequencing, and advanced microscopy (ScanR, Leica Thunder). Experience in recombinant DNA methodologies and quantitative data analysis is required. You should be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write text that can be published, present data at conferences, and represent the research group at meetings, are essential.
