<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p></p><div>The Department of Chemistry is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in Professor James McCullagh's Group in the Department of Chemistry. The role will focus on multiple bioanalytical and metabolomics projects and involve sample preparation and processing, automated sample analysis (by LC-MS and GC-FID), data processing, database curation and creating figures and tables for presentations and publications. It will involve research projects with a range of collaborators funded by CRUK, BBSRC and the Gates Foundation.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>The successful candidate will work with experienced post-doctoral researchers, closely liaising with colleagues in other departments including Department of Biochemistry and the Nuffield Department of Medicine. Training will be provided in all aspects of the role and the candidate will develop skills and experience in research project management, sample preparation, data analysis and presentation of data within a cross-disciplinary research context.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Responsibilities will include assisting the group to conduct research experiments, developing and performing comprehensive assays, preparing samples for mass spectrometry analysis, analysing samples and data and providing routine maintenance, laboratory and administrative support.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a related analytical field, including having had experience of generic laboratory skills such as pipetting, solvent preparation and weighing chemicals. They will ideally have previous experience working in a mass spectrometry or similar analytical lab involving sample analysis. Experience of metabolomics applications would also be useful. The successful candidate will have good communication skills, strong attention to detail, be highly organised and collaborative and demonstrate an ability to work efficiently and supportively in a laboratory environment.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Applications for the vacancy are to be made online.
