**About the role**



Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in proteomics of the DNA
damage response, funded by Cancer Research UK. The post-holder will use a
novel systematic approach involving a combination of bioinformatics and
cutting-edge proteomics techniques to identify functional peptide motifs and
post-translational modifications that mediate crucial protein-protein
interactions in the DNA damage response. Successful completion of the project
will provide new insights into the underlying mechanisms that control DNA
repair. This interdisciplinary project will be a close collaboration between
the Blackford lab at the University of Oxford’s Department of Oncology, and
the Kessler lab in the Target Discovery Institute, Nuffield Department of
Medicine. The postholder will therefore have the opportunity to work in both
labs and acquire a diverse and competitive skill set as the project evolves.



This role is offered on a full-time basis and is fixed term for 3 year in the
first instance.





**About you**



You should possess (or be nearing completion of) a PhD/DPhil in a relevant
field such as biology, chemistry, or physics. Essential experience includes
proficiency in proteomics approaches like immunoprecipitation, pulldowns, and
sample preparation for mass spectrometry analysis, as well as familiarity with
proteomics data workflows. A keen attention to detail, high motivation, and
excellent communication skills, including writing for publication and
presenting research, are crucial. Ideally, you'll have a background in areas
like DNA damage response or chromosome biology and experience in techniques
like mammalian cell culture, plasmid design, and high-resolution microscopy.
Experience with mass spectrometers, especially orbitrap or advanced TOF, is a
plus. Having a first author paper published in a reputable journal or a
manuscript under review would be advantageous.
