**THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT, PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY**
**About the role**
We are seeking to appoint a Research Technician and Laboratory Manager to join
the lab of Prof Nick Lakin. The research team investigates the molecular basis
of DNA repair and how this contributes to maintenance of genome integrity. Our
specific interests are in deciphering the role of poly-ADP-ribose polymerases
(PARPs) in the detection and signalling of DNA damage and how this promotes
DNA repair. We have significant expertise in studying these processes in human
cells and model organisms.
The Research Technician will manage our eukaryotic cell culture library and
other lab stocks in addition to providing experimental support to a variety of
projects. Tasks will involve cell-based assays for DNA repair, using genome
editing technologies to generate cell lines and recombinant DNA technology.
The Research Technician will also act as laboratory manager for the research
group, proactively maintaining stocks, equipment and facilities, health and
safety protocols, and creating an effective working environment.
This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Medical Research Council up to
6th June 2025 in the first instance. The actual starting salary offered will
be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be
determined by the funding available.
**About you**
You will hold a BSc Degree in an area of molecular and cell biology, genetics
or biochemistry. You should have experience of mammalian cell culture,
including clonal cell line generation and recombinant protein expression using
mammalian expression systems. You will also have experience of employing cell-
based assays to assess mechanisms of cell function. Experience in manipulating
gene expression by siRNA and/or genome editing is also desirable. You will
have experience of working in laboratory environment and be able to work
effectively with other lab members as part of a team. Good organisational and
