Laboratory Technician in Mass Spectrometry

There is an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician in Mass
Spectrometry with some lab management responsibilities in the Nuffield
Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS)
based at the Botnar Research Centre, Oxford. The laboratory of Prof. John
Christianson is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated scientist to work on a
research project investigating protein degradation mechanisms in cancer. You
will join an interdisciplinary team of experimental scientists working in the
fields of cell biology, drug discovery, and myeloma drug resistance as part of
a Cancer Research UK funded project at the Oxford Translation Myeloma Centre.



As a Laboratory Technician in our group you will be responsible for
preparation of biological samples for MS processing and liaising with our MS
facility. You will help to monitor tissue culture cell line integrity and
origin, and maintain cell stocks. You will contribute to discussions and share
research findings with the lab and colleagues in partner institutions, and
research groups. In addition, you will also have some lab management
responsibilities that help to keep the lab running smoothly on a day-to-day
basis. In this role, you will be helping to track and maintain inventory,
overseeing its organisation, and monitoring lab equipment.



You will hold an MSc or BSc (with work experience) in biology, chemistry,
biochemistry, or analytical chemistry. Experience of working in a laboratory,
including knowledge of health and safety regulations, and experience with
basic molecular/cell biology techniques are essential. Previous experience of
working in Life Science laboratory, experience with mass spectrometry data
analysis, and experience in cell or cancer biology, are all desirable.



This is a full-time (part time - 60% to 80% FTE will be considered) fixed term
appointment until December 2025.
