Postdoctoral Research Associate in Geometric Group Theory
Applications for this vacancy closed on 19 January 2024 at 12:00PM
We invite applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associates to work with
Dr Ric Wade at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. These are
fixed-term positions for up to 12 months, funded by the Royal Society of Great
Britain.
The PDRAs will work in geometric group theory. They will have the opportunity
to develop their own research programme and to collaborate with Dr Wade on
projects related to automorphisms and duality in geometric group theory. The
approximate themes are:
1. Improving our understanding of classifying spaces of duality groups, as well as the relationship between group theoretic notions of duality and notions of duality from other areas of mathematics.
2. Improving our understanding of how (outer) automorphism groups of free groups act on various spaces, both in terms of coarse geometry or finer notions.
3. Improving our understanding of (outer) automorphism groups of RAAGs via studying subgroup structure, (co)homological properties, and classifying spaces.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will take up the position between
1 July 2024 at the earliest and 1 October 2024 at the latest.
We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional
Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress toward advancing
racial and gender equality. As part of our strategic aim to improve staff
equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications from women
and BME candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this
type within the department.
Please direct informal enquiries to the contact details below quoting vacancy
reference 168929.
Applicants will be selected for interview purely based on their ability to
satisfy the selection criteria as outlined in full in the job description. You
will be required to upload a statement setting out how you meet the selection
criteria, a curriculum vitae including a full list of publications, a
statement of research interests, and the contact details of two referees as
part of your online application. **(NOTE: Applicants are responsible for
contacting their referees and making sure that their letters are received by
the closing date).**
Only applications received before 12.00 noon UK time on Friday 19 January 2024
can be considered.
