The Department of Biology is seeking to recruit a Research Technician. This is
a full-time post, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for 33-months
working under the direction of Professor Langdale in the Department of
Biology, University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3RB.
The responsibilities/duties of the postholder will be to undertake research
work as directed by the supervisor. The work will primarily involve aspects of
plant growth and tissue culture, specifically with rice (including preparation
of media, seed sterilisation, tissue culture, plant care, phenotyping, cross-
pollination, and seed harvesting). You will oversee the growth and maintenance
of rice plants within controlled environments, including occasional watering
duties at weekends or over holiday periods.
The postholder should have experience of plant tissue culture and a proven
record of successfully maintaining sterile in vitro cultures. Molecular
biology skills and experience of working with minimal supervision are
required, along with the ability to work co-operatively as part of a team and
to learn new methods and skills. A proven track record of accurate record
keeping and data analysis is essential. The successful applicant will have
good communication skills and will be educated to at least A-level or
equivalent qualification in science.
