Hooke Research Fellow and Glasstone Research Fellow

The prestigious Hooke Research Fellowships provide an ideal opportunity for

The prestigious Glasstone Research Fellowship in Science is supported by the
Glasstone Bequest, which was set up to encourage scientists at an early stage
of their career to follow their research interests at Oxford:

Fellowship is available in mathematics for start in 2024.

One Glasstone Fellowship is available and up to four appointments will be made
across the Hooke and Titchmarsh Fellowships in this recruitment. All
applications for the Hooke and Titchmarsh Research Fellowships will
automatically be considered for the Glasstone Fellowship. The Fellowships are
full-time, and fixed-term for up to 36 months; applications for job shares or
for part-time working to accommodate family circumstances will be considered.





Candidates should make one application which will automatically be considered
for both the Hooke and Glasstone Fellowships. You will have research interests
compatible with those of our current faculty in the mathematical biology,
mathematical and computational finance, numerical analysis or data science
research groups, or the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics
(OCIAM); you must clearly state at the start of your supporting letter which
one of these research groups you feel is closest to your work. The successful
applicants will be talented researchers, who have already produced excellent
research during their PhD and in any postdoctoral positions. Securing a
Fellowship will offer you the freedom to conduct your own research programme.





To aid the development of their academic profile, Fellows will be required to
contribute three or six hours of teaching per week for the 24 weeks of each
academic year to support the department, averaged over the period of the
Fellowship to allow for extended visits elsewhere. (The exact nature of this
teaching will be in accordance with departmental need as determined by the
Head of Department, noting that the department may require you to teach in a
college to provide cover for a member of faculty).





Candidates will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a
related discipline. They must show evidence of independence and the ability to
undertake research of the highest academic standard, hold an outstanding
record of papers published in major international journals (commensurate with
career stage), and have a realisable and relevant research plan which would
enhance the research profile of the Mathematical Institute. Additional
