The Subsidiary Companies Accountant will be responsible for the financial
records of a varied portfolio of companies and joint ventures of the
University of Oxford, and for the provision of financial information and
advice to company management, directors, as well as to senior stakeholders
within the University.

**About the Role**
This role is responsible for the accounting and reporting function of a varied
portfolio of the University’s subsidiary companies and joint ventures. This
will include overseeing and reviewing transactional processing by the
assistant account, as well as designing and producing appropriate reports for
stakeholders, and the production of the companies’ annual financial
statements.
The successful candidate will be a key attendee at company board meetings and
will be responsible for presenting financial results and briefing the board on
any key financial issues. The role is also responsible for the production of
annual financial statements and will act as first point of contact for the
companies’ auditors.
This role will also assist, when required, with the setup of accounting
infrastructure and related processes for new subsidiary companies and, subject
to capacity constraints, take on the responsibility for accounting and
reporting requirements for those new subsidiaries, as they become operational.

You will be based in Hythe Bridge Street but you may be able to agree a
pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
**About You**
This role needs to combine strong financial accounting skills with a strong
understanding of appropriate financial processes and controls. We expect that
the successful candidate will hold a recognized accounting qualification sich
as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA, and will have relevant accounting experience in a
financial or management accounting role.
The team uses Sage for the majority of companies, so the role requires
knowledge of Sage or a comparable accounting package. We are also looking for
a good understanding of the UK tax regime including VAT, corporation tax and
payroll taxes.
Due to the varied nature of the role, the successful candidate will need a
high level of personal effectiveness and the ability to prioritise competing
tasks, and to delegate as appropriate. Similarly, this role requires a
flexible approach and the willingness to take on other tasks as required to
support team members and cover any absences. Communication is also key as the
team works closely with other teams in the University’s finance division
including the company secretarial team, the tax team, and the financial
reporting team.
