Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Solid Hydrogen Storage
Applications for this vacancy closed on 30 December 2023 at 12:00PM
We are seeking a full-time Postdoc Researcher to join the Energy Storage and
Energy Carrier research group led by Dr Binjian Nie at the Department of
Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by EPSRC New
Investigator Award for 24 months or an end date of 31 March 2026 - whichever
is earlier.
The overall aim of the project is to investigate the synergistic process of
novel thermochemical energy storage and solid hydrogen storage which is
expected to have step-change performance improvements in round-trip-
efficiency, volumetric density, and costs in comparison to existing hydrogen
storage techniques including (i) compressed hydrogen, (ii) liquid hydrogen,
and (iii) ammonia. The full-time PDRA will mainly conduct original research in
composite materials and reactors for solid hydrogen storage.
You should possess a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant area of
engineering, such as material engineering, or chemical engineering. You should
have experience in hydrogen-relevant research with an evidenced track record,
particularly publications in high-impact journals. You should also build
experimental test rigs with the assistance of a lab technician. Experience in
thermal or thermochemical energy storage, chemical reaction and process
engineering is desirable.
Experience in patent filing and knowledge transfer is also desirable. Informal
enquiries may be addressed to Dr Binjian Nie (email: Binjian.nie@eng.ox.ac.uk)
For more information about working at the Department, see
www.eng.ox.ac.uk/about/work-with-us/ Only online applications received before
midday on 30 December 2023 can be considered. You will be required to upload a
cover letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research
interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the
advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your
online application.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment
to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology. Hydrogen, Thermal
Energy Storage, Heating & Cooling, Reactors and Process Engineering, Chemical
