Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist to join an
exciting research project on viral immunology, particularly infections with
Flavivirus and Coronavirus in the laboratory of Professor Gavin Screaton and
Associate Professor Juthathip Mongkolsapaya.





Both virus families, especially the members of Coronaviruses, cause a massive
healthcare burden. We have considerable experience in the investigation of the
immune responses to the viruses and publish well. You will be involved in a
broadly-based research program covering a number of aspects of viral
immunology, and vaccine development.





Your primary responsibilities will include; managing your own academic
research in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment of an
internationally leading research institute. This involves project management,
to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. Adapting existing
and develop new scientific techniques, and experimental protocols and testing
hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing
and refining working hypotheses as appropriate.





You will contribute ideas for new research projects and collaborate in the
preparation of scientific reports, journal articles, and grant application and
occasionally present papers and posters. Act as a source of information and
advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental
techniques as well as conduct and plan own scientific work. You will benefit
from the institute and wider university expertise in immunology, virology, and
molecular biology. There will be opportunities to develop new therapeutic
materials and vaccine development in infectious diseases.





As part of the role you will need to hold a PhD or be close to completion of
your PhD in a subject related to antibody responses to viral infection. You
must have a proactive and adaptable approach to work and willingness to
collaborate and provide scientific and workplace guidance to research
assistants and students. Excellent record keeping, careful methodological work
skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential. You will need to
communicate effectively with a range of collaborators, including the COI
research groups and contributing groups across Oxford.
