Laboratory Technician

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p></p><div><strong>Laboratory Technician</strong></div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div><strong>Salary/Grade: Grade 5: &#163;28,759 - &#163;33,966</strong></div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div><strong>Full-time</strong></div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>An experienced laboratory technician is required to work on a project which seeks to understand why we need to sleep by studying how the brain responds to sleep loss.&#160; The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the lab.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Responsibilities will include being responsible for the day to day mouse colony maintenance, assisting in surgical procedures, run basic wet lab protocols, ensure the smooth day to day running of the lab, write up experimental results, monitor and order stock as necessary, maintain a database, run reports and interpret results as well as keep up to date with Good Laboratory Practice, Health and Safety, COSHH sheets and other regulations relevant to the post.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>You will be educated to at least a BSc or have an equivalent qualification in Science, and have experience working with mouse models in a laboratory environment.&#160; It is essential that you currently hold a PIL or have previously held a PIL.&#160; You must be able to troubleshoot problems with experiments, show strong attention to detail with the ability to organise samples and record results in a clear and organized fashion.&#160; You must also be able to organise your own work load and take initiative as appropriate, have knowledge of health and safety regulations and excellent IT skills including Word, Excel (i.e. Data basing) and PowerPoint programs.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Experience with Matlab and Python and biochemical/molecular biology work in a laboratory environment are desirable but not essential.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>The post is available as soon as possible.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>The post will be based at the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, Tinsley Building, Mansfield Road, Oxford.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Informal enquiries may be directed to fiona.woods@cncb.ox.ac.uk</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Closing date for applications is <strong>midday on 10th April 2024</strong></div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div><strong><em>Applications are particularly welcome from women, black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.</em></strong></div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>We, as a Department and Community, will be considerate and welcoming of all people, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and socio-economic background.
