Research Assistant

Applications for this vacancy closed on 5 August 2024 at 12:00PM
The Oxford Vaccine Group (OVG) are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Research
Assistant to join the Enteric Pathogen Research team. Would you like a role
which involves testing new vaccines in the context of Human Challenge Models
of Infection? Are you looking for a technical role with the opportunity to
develop skills in Containment Level 3 or to gain extensive laboratory
experience before undertaking a PhD?

Why not consider a Research Assistant role at the Oxford Vaccine Group? OVG
conducts world-leading research into new vaccines and optimising existing
vaccines for children and adults. Our research has recently led to the much-
anticipated introduction of a ChAdOx-vectored vaccine against SARS-CoV2, a
Meningitis B vaccine for babies into the UK vaccination schedule and the
introduction of a new vaccine against Typhoid Fever in a number of countries
globally. The group also focuses on other emerging pathogens and on global
health in general.

The role is essential to deliverance of research projects involving new
vaccine development against bacterial and viral infections, and including
human challenge models of infection. You will support the research of Post
Doctoral Scientists, whilst obtaining training in working to Good Clinical and
Laboratory Practice standards, HTA guidelines and MHRA regulations.

You will use a large variety of techniques from molecular biology and cell
biology, to pre-clinical vaccine evaluation, immunological assays and handling
and analysis of blood samples from clinical studies. Training will be provided
but previous experience in preclinical work and immunology techniques such as
ELISA, ELISpot and flow cytometry is expected. You will also participate in
developing and establishing methodologies that will be used in Containment
Level 3, working on Human Challenge Models of Infection.

The ideal candidate would be able to work autonomously as well as part of a
team, be proactive, participate in meetings and have excellent communication
and organisational skills and attention to detail. Applicants should have a
keen interest in research and be dedicated to the team’s output.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Elizabeth Clutterbuck using the contact
details below.

You will be required to upload a CV and Supporting Statement as part of your
online application. The Supporting Statement should include a cover letter and
should also clearly describe how you meet each of the selection criteria
listed in the job description. Click here for information and advice on
writing an effective Supporting Statement.

Only online applications received before 12.00 midday on 5th August 2024 will
be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
