Co-Lead for Patient and Public Involvement in Medical Education (Patient/Public role)

Applications for this vacancy closed on 4 November 2024 at 12:00PM
**0.2 FTE, ****Fixed term until 31 July 2027 (with the possibility of renewal
for a further period)**

Patient and Public involvement in medical education is an essential
requirement of the General Medical Council (GMC). By working with patients and
those with lived experience of health care, as equals during their
undergraduate education, it is hoped that medical students will learn to
listen to patients more effectively and continue to learn from them throughout
their career.

The role is split between a clinical co-lead and a patient/public co-lead who
work in tandem to fulfil the responsibilities of the post. The patient/public
post holder will work with the clinical co-lead to further develop and
implement the Patient and Public Involvement strategy across the 6-year
undergraduate Medicine programme and the 4-year Graduate Entry Medicine
programme reporting to the Directors of Studies in the medical school and also
with the individual departments that contribute to the delivery of the course.

The co-leads will support the growth of Patient and Public Involvement in both
the medical curriculum and the wider educational activities within the School.
They will work with educators, patients, and lay members of the public to
develop novel and innovative approaches to enhance patient and public
involvement in medical education, providing and sharing advice of best
practice whilst advocating for the interests and needs of patients and the
wider public.

The PPI co-leads represent the interest of patients in medical school
discussions, and promote patient involvement and its potential in individual
sections of the entire course.
