**Systems Administrator- Microsoft Platform Services Team**
**Contract:** Full-time, 16 month Fixed Term contract
**Location:** Dartington House, Oxford
**Salary:** £38,674 - £46,913 per annum
The Microsoft Platform Services team in IT Services is looking to recruit a
Systems Administrator with existing Windows administration experience and
strong customer service skills.
The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an
international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research
plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon
emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic. IT Services is a key
department that ensures that the University has robust, reliable and high-
performing IT facilities it requires to support the distinctive needs of those
engaged in teaching, learning, research and administration. We value and
recognise our own and the contribution of others, creating a great culture to
work in and a place where we all feel we belong.
The postholder will be based in Dartington House but you will be able to agree
a pattern of regular hybrid working with your line manager.
**What We Offer**
Working at the University of Oxford offers several exclusive benefits, such
as:
* 38 days of annual leave (inclusive of public holidays) to support your wellbeing, with the option to purchase up to 10 extra days and additional leave after long service.
* One of the most generous family leave schemes in UK higher education, offering up to 26 weeks of full-pay maternity and adoption leave, plus 12 weeks of full-pay paternity/partner leave.
* A commitment to hybrid and flexible working to suit your lifestyle.
* An excellent contributory pension scheme.
* Affordable and sustainable commuting options, including a cycle loan scheme, discounted bus travel, and season ticket loans.
* Access to a vibrant community through our social, cultural, and sports clubs.
**About the Role**
* The successful candidate will specialise in supporting the Research File Services infrastructure, dealing with tasks from managing storage allocations, monitoring and backups, upgrading and configuring server-side applications, and building Window server clusters.
* You will work as part of a virtual continuous improvement team, using agile methodologies to iteratively develop outcome-driven improvements to a research data storage product and service.
* The postholder will also work alongside the other systems administrators in the team to contribute to the management of our server estate; monitoring and maintaining the wider server infrastructure and dealing with escalated third-line tasks and incidents.
* This is an opportunity to gain an insight into the tools and processes needed to manage a large, complex estate and to work alongside a senior technical team to grow your skills in Windows server administration.
* Although this post is advertised at Grade 7, we also welcome your application if you feel that you do not currently meet all the criteria but have the potential to do so given a suitable opportunity. In this case, we may offer the post initially at a lower grade (Grade 6) along with a development plan.
**About You**
* You will have proven expertise in Microsoft systems administration, particularly Windows Server, and demonstrable interest in gaining an advanced understanding of Microsoft Windows server systems and Azure.
* You will have a good understanding of TCP/IP networks, and an understanding of issues relating to system security, reliability and availability.
* You will have excellent communications skills, including the presentation of complex technical ideas, and the production of accurate written documentation.
**Application Process**
You will be required to upload a supporting statement, CV and the details of
two referees as part of your online application.
The **closing date** for applications is **12 noon** on **Monday 28 April
