<div>We are seeking enthusiastic Paediatric Trainees (two posts) with an interest in research to join the Department of Paediatrics team at the University of Oxford.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div><strong>About the role</strong></div><br>
<div>Applications are welcome from clinical trainees within the Oxford School of Paediatrics at ST3 to ST6 for the Oxford Paediatric Academic Fellowship. Victoria Smallpeice Paediatric Academic Fellow (PAF) posts have been created to provide an opportunity for local trainees to experience research while remaining in the paediatric training programme. These posts provide an ideal opportunity for those who wish to become a clinical academic and develop a research portfolio and appropriate pilot data to support a competitive application for further academic training. In particular, an application for an externally-funded DPhil Fellowship following a PAF would be encouraged.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>These posts are designed to meet the needs of doctors at ST4-7 level who plan to develop their research skills alongside their clinical training. The successful applicants’ time will be split equally between academic and clinical placements. They will be based in the Oxford region with academic time at the University of Oxford. Clinical training will be overseen by the Oxford Deanery and postholders will undergo an ARCP assessment on an annual basis to assess the quality of their training. Each Fellow will have a clinical, an educational and an academic (research/teaching) supervisor.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>The post is a 12- or 24-month fellowship joint programme with the NHS/Paediatric School, with time shared equally (1:1) between the clinical and research programmes.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>The University Department of Paediatrics will normally provide the academic supervision but trainees may alternatively engage with academic supervisors from across the Medical Sciences Division who have close links to the Department of Paediatrics. The trainee will be placed within a research unit of their choosing that has the funding available to support the post, including the applicant’s salary for their research time (50% of post) and relevant research costs such as consumables.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>The trainee should seek a written commitment from their proposed supervisor to cover these costs, prior to making an application for this Fellowship.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div><strong>About the department</strong></div><br>
<div>The Department of Paediatrics holds the Athena Swan Gold award (a national gender equality charter) acknowledging the innovative policies and practices developed across the department. We encourage staff to develop their skills by offering all staff ten paid days of professional development each year and have a policy where staff can apply to receive funding for further training.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>In addition to the University of Oxford <a rel="nofollow" href="https://staff.admin.ox.ac.uk/thriving-at-oxford">wellbeing resources</a>, the Department of Paediatrics sponsors weekly exercise classes such as yoga and bootcamp sessions as well as a choir. For staff on work visas, we also offer financial assistance towards visa renewal fees. These activities are designed to promote physical and mental wellbeing among staff members.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>Please visit our <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.paediatrics.ox.ac.uk/">website</a> to find out more about the Department.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div><strong>How to apply</strong></div><br>

The Supporting Statement should include a cover letter and should also clearly describe how you meet each of the selection criteria listed in the job description. <div>To discuss the post in more detail, please contact Dr Alexander Jones,  British Heart Foundation Intermediate Clinical Research Fellow in Paediatric Cardiovascular Medicine, using the contact details below.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 22 April 2025 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.</div><br>
<div> </div><br>
<div>The Department of Paediatrics offers an Interview Expense Reimbursement Policy in its efforts towards equality, diversity and inclusion. Should you be invited to interview, we will share further information about the policy at that stage.</div><br>
