Apprentice - Painter Decorator/ Property Maintenance Operative

We have a fantastic opportunity to join the University of Oxford as an
Apprentice Painter and Decorator in the Physics department and play a part in
developing a better future for all.
You will have the unique opportunity to work in a department specialising in a
very broad range of topics including space exploration, finding cures for
human diseases and building one of the world’s first functioning quantum
computers to name only a few.
You will join a hard-working Building Services team
Building Services supports the department to make sure all infrastructural
needs are met.
Our work falls broadly into 3 areas;
1) Maintenance and servicing.
2) Testing and inspection to make sure we are compliant.
3) The rearrangement of space and objects so that the next task can be done in
the space dedicated.
The last task can be as simple as removing waste, shifting furniture or as
complex as a small Capital works project to reconfigure space: A strip out,
reconfigure walls and doors, install new power, lighting and data, process
chilled water, new paint, new flooring, and new ceiling etc. The work is
varied and never ending.
As an apprentice, you will join the team soon, but the college training is not
due to start till August 2024. This gives you a chance to develop skills in
and around being a Painter and have you settled at work before the rigors of
college start.
You will work as an Apprentice Painter, Decorator. You will be required to
complete a 2-year training programme that will cover all aspects of the role
and will be delivered through in-house training, as well as day-release by
Windsor Forest College Group (formerly East Berkshire College), Langley campus
and you will gain Level 2 qualification.

To complete the level 2 apprenticeship, it is essential that you will be able
to evidence GCSE standard (English and Maths grade C or grade 4) or equivalent
Our apprentices are never on their own, you will benefit from a supportive
environment working in collaboration with the rest of our Building Services
team.
You will also be supported by the central apprenticeship team and you will
join our growing network of apprentices within the university. You will have
the opportunity to become an apprenticeship ambassador for the University and
region.
