Laboratory Technician in Cell Biology/Biochemistry

Applications for this vacancy closed on 20 October 2023 at 12:00PM
There is an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician in Cell
Biology/Biochemistry with some lab management responsibilities in the Nuffield
Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS)
based at the Botnar Research Centre, Oxford. The laboratory of Prof. John
Christianson is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated scientist to work on a
research project investigating protein degradation mechanisms in cancer. You
will join an interdisciplinary team of experimental scientists working in the
fields of cell biology, drug discovery, and myeloma drug resistance as part of
a Cancer Research UK funded project at the Oxford Translational Myeloma
Centre.

As a Laboratory Technician in our group, you will be responsible for culturing
and maintaining the many different cell lines in the lab, performing
biochemical assays including processing of protein samples (e.g.
immunoprecipitation, SDS-PAGE, western blot), maintaining cell stocks and
confirming their integrity and origin. You will have ample opportunity to take
on a mentored project as well as to contribute to discussions and share
research findings with our lab, other research groups, and colleagues in
partner institutions. In addition, you will also have some lab management
responsibilities that help to keep the lab running smoothly on a day-to-day
basis. In this role, you will be helping to track and maintain inventory,
overseeing its organisation, and monitoring lab equipment.

You will hold an MSc or BSc (with work experience) in biology, chemistry,
biochemistry, or analytical chemistry. Experience of working in a Life Science
laboratory, including experience in basic molecular/cell biology techniques
and knowledge of health and safety regulations, are essential. Previous
experience with ubiquitin-proteasome biology, ER homeostasis, membrane protein
biology or cancer biology, are desirable but not essential.

This is a full-time (part time - 60% to 80% FTE will be considered) fixed term
appointment until December 2025.

The closing date for this position is 12 noon on 20/10/2023. You will be
required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online
application.
