Systems Manager
Permanent post on Grade 7: £36,024 - £44,263 per annum (£45,585 - £48,350
discretionary rate)
We are looking for a highly motivated and creative individual to join the
Department of Primary Care Health Sciences to help manage our specialist
research environments supporting our academic community.
You will be supporting a range of services including Windows & Linux systems
and services, VMWare vSphere and VSAN, and a range of backup and replication
services following devops approach to deployments where appropriate. We are
looking to develop our services with increased integration, making use of
PowerShell and Bash to automate service provision across our ORCHID research
platform, along with scalable deployment solutions for commonly used research
platforms (such as R, Python, Jupyter Notebooks), as well as exploring
opportunities for extending out to cloud environments.
The research we undertake uses healthcare data so an eye on security is a must
and you will need to bring your technical expertise to advise and construct
systems and services that support the academic requirement while maintaining
the correct level of security and protection for our information assets.
We are also looking to deploy further administrative services to support the
IT team in the department, including an improved Asset Management tool and
centralised research compute facilities. You would be involved in these
developments with the opportunity to use your skills and talent to help shape
our expanding service portfolio.

Medical Science division, you will be joining not only the PHC IT Team, but
the MSD IT Team and the wider community of IT Professionals across the
University of Oxford, with the opportunity for networking across the

The post is available full time on a permanent basis however we are able to be
flexible about how this would work, including flexible patterns of hours (e,g,
five days over four with long hours) or remote/on-site working (with an
expectation of 2 days on site).
You’ll also be entitled to 30 days annual leave plus bank holiday, pension
scheme, salary sacrifice scheme for childcare alongside highly-rated
