<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p></p><div>Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral research Assistant modelling oxidation in the Martian atmosphere.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of&#160; 2 years.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>The ExoMars mission is the flagship programme of the European Space Agency (ESA) to search for sign of life in the Solar System and pave the way for human exploration. The role of the researcher will be to undertake photochemical modelling using the Planetary Climate Model (PCM/Mars GCM) in support of the observations of Mars being made with spectrometers onboard the TGO.</div><br> <div>The applicant will specifically look how the changing oxidative state of the Martian atmosphere, driven by ozone enhancements, impacts other observed trace gases, including the newly discovered volcanic gas hydrogen chloride.&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; &#160;&#160;</div><br> <div>The successful candidate will manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadline; adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols using high-performance, server-based computing systems; test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and&#160; refining working hypotheses as appropriate; collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters.</div><br> <div>.</div><br> <div>Applicants should possess &#160;a PhD/DPhil (or close to obtaining) , and a strong background in atmospheric chemistry or physics and photochemical modelling.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Previous experience in the field of global climate modelling or general circulation modelling will be an advantage.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Please direct enquiries about the role to &#160;Dr. Kevin Olsen kevin.olsen@physics.ox.ac.uk</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>Only applications received before midday 21st March 2024 &#160;can be considered.</div><br> <div>&#160;</div><br> <div>You will be required to upload a letter of application/supporting statement, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.</div> </div>
