Uzbek Language Lecturer

The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies aims to appoint a Language
Lecturer in Uzbek language, for two years to develop a syllabus for teaching
Uzbek language and to provide teaching in Uzbek and Chagatai texts. This is a
part-time (0.2 FTE) and fixed-term position commencing on 1st October 2024 or
as soon as possible after that.





This position and its associated teaching constitutes a pilot programme of the
Oxford Nizami Ganjavi Centre (ONGC). The Lecturer will join the Faculty of
Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, where they will be a member of the Arabic,
Persian and Turkish Subject Group.





You will have native or equivalent command of Uzbek as well as of English, and
a first degree in applied linguistics, language pedagogy, Turkic languages or
any subject relevant to the study of language, literature and culture. You
will also have advanced knowledge of Chagatai language and sources, and the
ability to teach them through manuscripts as well as through printed material.
You will bring experience of teaching Uzbek as a foreign language in a
university setting; excellent communication and workload management skills;
and a commitment to promoting dynamic and effective language teaching.





This position is based in central Oxford. This is a part-time, fixed-term
position until 30 September 2026.
