HR Manager
Applications for this vacancy closed on 26 September 2024 at 11:18AM
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Manager to join one of
the largest politics and international relations departments in the world.
DPIR is a stimulating work environment, where our influential research plays a
key role in tackling some of the central issues of today and of the future,
examining how everyday governments and political systems impact our lives,
shaping political economy, culture, conflict, legal rights and more on a
global, national and local level. The HR Manager has a key role within the
senior administration of DPIR and is responsible for the HR operations of the
Department, ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures in
line with UK employment legislation.
The HR Manager will report to the Head of Administration and Finance (HAF),
and work closely with the Head of Department (HoD) and other senior staff
members on people matters, strategy driven activities and in planning and
implementing policies and processes that contribute to the development of the
department and its employees. The HR Manager will also work closely and
collaboratively with the wider Professional Services teams in the Department
as well as work with the Social Sciences Divisional HR team, and central
University teams that cover areas such as reward, staff immigration and global
mobility.
The ideal candidate should have a demonstrable understanding of the importance
of effective HR management in an academic environment, have outstanding
organisational skills, as well as a collaborative approach to work. They will
be expected to acquire a thorough understanding of the University’s procedures
to deliver creative solutions, and to foster constructive working
relationships across the Department and with the wider University. They will
be qualified to CIPD graduate level or above or have equivalent experience.
They will have demonstrable sound judgement in HR matters with detailed
knowledge and experience of the application of UK employment law and UKVI
regulations with an ability to evaluate risk. They will also have excellent
interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and constructive
working relationships at all levels of the department, division, and
university, and to influence decisions, including at senior management level.
This is a permanent, full-time position. It is important for us as a team to
promote a healthy work-life balance; we operate a flexible/hybrid working
arrangement and actively promote a family friendly working environment,
including generous provision of family leave (i.e. maternity, paternity,
parental, carers and adoption leave).
