Postdoctoral Research Assistant
Applications for this vacancy closed on 4 March 2025 at 12:00PM
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in **The search
for radio sources in the Epoch of Reionisation**
The post is available for a fixed-term duration of 6 months
_This is a short-term role funded through the UKRI Frontier Research Grant of
Prof. Matt Jarvis to exploit the first data release of the MIGHTEE-continuum
component of the MIGHTEE survey in the COSMOS, ECDFS and XMMLSS fields. The
role will require a high level of technical expertise to determine the
luminosity function of massive galaxies at z~6 and relate this to the radio
continuum data._
The successful candidate will:
• Analyse ground-based optical and near-infrared data alongside multi-
wavelength data in the MIGHTEE fields and write publishable papers based on
this.
• Publish work on the galaxy luminosity function at z~6
• Work closely with other members of Prof. Jarvis’ group to maximise the
impact of the MIGHTEE Data Release 1 in relation to the high-redshift
galaxies.
• Co-organise weekly group meetings on AGN and Star-forming galaxies
• The post-holder will be expected to contribute to Departmental life in
Oxford Astrophysics. We provide opportunities to teach in tutorials and
laboratories, supervise undergraduate project students and contribute to our
active outreach programme. Other opportunities involve running our
astrophysics seminar series and engaging in Departmental committees.
Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in
physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in Astrophysics.
• _A demonstrable ability to select clean high-redshift galaxy samples from
optical and near-infrared imaging data_
• _Demonstrable ability to use photometric redshift codes_
• _Demonstrable expertise in measuring photometry and determining galaxy
properties from multi-wavelength imaging and spectroscopic data_
The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
Please direct enquiries about the role to Prof. Matt Jarvis
